Uppsala University is teaching Erlang during basic distributed programming methods course.

Erlang is used as a basis for assignements, allowing more interesting and in-depth analysis of distributed programming methods.

A very fun assignement is for example to write a completely distributed and decentralized almost-unbreakable chat system using process groups and with a GUI in GS, along with a nameserver so you can publish your groups. Students had 8 weeks to write the chat system. Really fun !
