2 - A little bit of history

At the beginning there was Bluetail, a Swedish company founded in 1998 by Erlang developers. This company was building Erlang based network appliance. They made several robustifying and clustering applications (Mail robustifier, Web prioritizer, Directory robustifier, SSL Accelerator).

Their activity was described as following: "Bluetail develops and sells software products to Internet organizations therby supplying Reliability, Scalability and Manageability to Internet services."

In 2000, Bluetail was sold to Alteon WebSystems. A short time later Alteon was sold to Nortel Networks.

Erlang development keeps on going at Nortel today. Nortel Networks has became one of the biggest company using Erlang, along with Ericsson.
